My daughter in law finished her quilt.

Ali started this quilt a few months ago and last night she quilted it on my quilting machine all by herself💥. I hope this is the beginning of a lifelong hobby that will give us lots of times together.

How cute is that face?  She's giving the quilt to her friend this weekend.

Repurposed shutter project

I picked up a few Windows and shutters a while back and have been letting them season outside until now.  I happened to like this old shutter because of the half moon which made it seem like it belonged on an outhouse.
I sanded it to this:
Then I painted it yesterday when I was home alone. I used black spray paint which made it easy and fast.
Today I decorated it for use in the little sewing room Kenny and I are painting this summer.
It's ready for seasonal wreaths and projects I'm working on or contemplating.  I can't wait to see it on the wall soon.  ðŸ˜€

Embroidered quilt almost done😀💥💥

I started this quilt in a class a few years ago at Pieceful Quilting when they had a store in Calverton and tonight I finally put it together.  Debating whether or not to put a border all around it to make it larger.  It really is lovely and would make a nice coverlet to put on a bed with a white bedspread.
I had a good time playing with colors and fabrics in this quilt.

Love the pretty designs and am happy I put this together tonight.  I was feeling crabby this afternoon so took to the sewing room in the attic to work it off. 😀

Repurposed old window

A few years ago I picked up a few old shutters and windows to play around with.  This past weekend I decided to work on the window and make something for Evelyn's old room since I quilt in there sometimes and guests stay there.  I cleaned the room really well this weekend too so thought it would be cool to decorate a bit.
I washed the window outside to get all the excess paint off and then I remembered that I had a nice panel with bible verses.  I measured and they were perfect for each pane of glass.
I got out the Mod Podge and cut them and glued them on.
Then I remembered I had cute little plant hangers that were made from old faucets.  Kenny liked them so he drilled the holes and put them on.  I was doing it myself but he wanted to help! 😀

Kenny hates repurposed things but he liked this when it was done.  Not exactly a convert, but it's a start!

Dressing up a garage stepping stool

Deb's grandmother had this chair in the garage and Deb has always used it so instead of buying a new one (which wouldn't be as strong or long lasting) I made her a little cover for it.
I put some duct tape on the chair so it would be flatter and then I made this for it.
Much cuter! She will smile each time she uses it.

Tea cosy for Deb's High Tea

My friend has a high tea every year and it's already coming up for this Saturday.  I made her a new cosy to add to her collection. I liked this design because it's so close to Easter and I like the reminder for myself about how I should live my life. (Sometimes it's soooo hard!). Deb will love this, I am sure.

Bertie's Easter quilt

Kenny got me this Easter quilt kit a few months ago and I promised myself I wouldn't start it unless I was going to finish it.  I love all the flowers and chicks and spring themes.  It's all ready for quilting now and I plan to do that tomorrow when I am done with my running around.

After I quilt it I will add the button eyes and the hand embroidery for the stems on the flowers.
It was fun to do the machine embroidery on this project.  I used many different stitches to add texture to the appliqués.
What a fun time I had with this!  Working on it got me through some tough times at work.  It's been a very trying year but I am hopeful that it's in the past and not going to continue.  Sewing is my best therapy!

Jelly roll baby quilt for Megan

I have been in a sewing mindset every minute lately but I've only been starting projects if I know I will finish them!  This was a quick quilt I made for my friend's new baby girl.  It was fun and quick
which made it even more pleasant.

I appliquéd her name and the puppy.

My favorite part is the pink chenille!  All washed and ready for cuddling.  Oh and I did a curved edge on the top and bottom which was my first time ever!

Bunny mug rugs

This weekend I made a few mug rugs for Easter.  The ones with the blue bunnies are for me and Kenny.  The others are for friends at work.  I'm going to make some for my kids before next weekend.  Now that they both own homes they need stuff for the seasons.

These are toile bunnies.  I always love how toile looks!  I belong to a monthly fabric club where they send me little packs of 2 1/2 inch squares.  These projects are perfect for them.

Evelyn's day of wedding shopping

Evelyn got engaged to Patrick on December 27 and today we went to look at dresses for her.  They are not having a traditional big wedding but they are having a dinner party at their favorite restaurant on October 15th.  They are probably going to elope before then and just enjoy the party.  Evelyn doesn't like everyone looking at her and gets anxious about all that stuff so this will be perfect.  We didn't find anything perfect for the party yet so will keep looking.  She looked gorgeous in every single dress she tried on!  Her friends said she would look good in a burlap wedding dress!  They were a lot of fun today too!  Evelyn has a friend who is my age!  Funny how life goes.

I made some Valentines pillowcases for a teacher I work with this year.  She is a wonderful person and found the man of her dreams this fall!  Maybe the pillowcases will make her have sweet dreams of the future💚!

Easy mug rugs for winter

My niece's birthday was right after Christmas and we went up to Vermont to visit.  I made her these cute mug rugs as a present.  Kenny got me the embroidery CD for Christmas so I was excited to use it right away.  The entire project is made in the hoop!  (Except for the binding.)

We liked them a lot so I made us two red ones last Sunday.
Cute, right?  The Singer sewing machine/vacuum store in Riverhead had the embroidery designs!

Valentines wall hanging done💚

I am a member of the Shabby Fabrics Vintage Blessings wall hanging club that gets delivered by mail every month.  Of course I really need to have yet another monthly sewing obligation! I was smart about this one and ordered the laser cut version so it's essentially ready to roll as soon as it arrives.  I love all of Shabby Fabrics' kits and fabric collections!  Tonight it's all done and ready for the table.

My lovely daughter in law is learning to sew and make quilts!

Ali has a friend who is having a baby so she wants to make a quilt.  She came over two times so far and has made good progress.  A few years ago we were going to make one for her friend's first baby, but time got away from us with their wedding plans and just life in general.  So now she will make one for each of her friend's children.  I am so happy to have someone in the family to sew with me.  Maybe this will inspire Evelyn to get started too.  Evelyn will do other crafts so we do get to create together.
Sewing on the Babylock.
Chain piecing!
Getting the colors worked out.

We're going to add machine embroidery with the baby's name and put some
animals driving cars on a strip at the top. It will be so cute.

Halloween quilt done and delivered!

The girls were married on Halloween and this is them under the quilt.  They loved it and let me know right away!
Thought I should show the blocks separately and then all together.

There is so much detail in every block.

Here it is hanging on my nieces' fence in Vermont.  I never got to take a picture before I gave it to them so I took a picture when I went to visit them this past week.  I enjoyed the whole process and even though I doubt I'll make another one exactly like this, it was fun to work on!
